Winter Sports Announcement 2021

ASPIRA Families,

 

My name is Brian Bais and I am the Athletic Director at the middle school this year. I am happy to announce that we will be starting after school sports at the middle school (East Campus). We will not be competing against other schools at this time, but we will be practicing daily to develop our skills, create a team dynamic and ensure our players are ready for next season. To participate students will need to have a current and complete DIAA sports physical. Practices will begin January 25, 2021 and go until February 26, 2021. This 5-week period will give all students from the East Campus who have interest in playing boys basketball, girls basketball or cheerleading a chance to participate. There will be no try-outs or cuts for a team.

 

We will be starting practices Monday, January 25, 2021. Practices will be Monday through Thursday from 3:30pm – 5:00pm at the middle school (East Campus). Families will be responsible for providing transportation home after practice. Students must be picked up by 5:15pm.

 

Students who are currently REMOTE may also participate if they have a current negative test results for COVID-19. Students would also need to retest and present negative results for COVID-19 no later than Friday, February 5, 2021 to continue to practice the weeks of February 8th to February 19th. Students will need a third COVID test submitted by February 19th for the last week of practice from February 22nd to February 26th.  Remote students must also complete a daily self-survey before attending practice, ensuring they currently are not experiencing any symptoms. Transportation to and from the East Campus will need to be provided by families.

 

Students participating in sports must wear a mask at all times. Students must have their own water bottle, hand sanitizer, and a second mask available. If a student has an inhaler or Epi-pen they may self-carry, but another one must be kept in the nurse's office during the school year. 

 

Below is the link to the current DIAA sports physical. Students who do not have a completed sports physical will NOT be able to participate. Sports physicals will need to be taken to your child’s doctor or to a medical aid unit. Most medical aid units will complete sports physicals for no more than $30 dollars and no appointment is needed.

Please note that athletes with cardiovascular issues or asthma will need permission to wear a mask for sports. This clearance will need to come from your child’s doctor or a medical aid unit and should be included with the physical form.
