Meet the Teacher

Hi! My name is Mrs. Sarah Jefferis. This is my fourth year at Las Americas ASPIRA Academy supporting special education students in math, and any other subjects they may need. This year, I will be teaching 7th and 8th grades. Before coming to ASPIRA, I worked with pre-school students with special needs. I worked at many local restaurants in order to graduate from Wilmington University in 2015 with my Master's Degree in Middle School Math, and earned my Special Education certification at the same time. In my free time, I enjoy being outside with my family and pets, as well as watching baseball. I am excited for another great school year! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at sarah.jefferis@laaa.k12.de.us or (302) 292-1291 ext. 515.

What you can do to support your middle school student at home:
1) Students learn differently from each other, and will be presented with multiple modalities within units. Encourage them to be accepting of all types of learners, and to choose a strategy that works for them.
2) Ask your student to explain their work. Be able to re-teach content helps students synthesize and have a deeper understanding of the content.
3) Remind them that mistakes are inevitable, and that it means they are learning.
4) Check in with your student to ensure they are keeping up with their assignments. All assignments can be found on schoology.
