Elementary School: KN – 5th Grade
In the dual language education model at LAAA, the partner language is Spanish
There is an A/B day rotation in K-2 in which students alternate learning core content (language arts and math) in Spanish and English as they rotate each day.
Grades 3-5 follow a block schedule, receiving instruction in the subject areas of English language arts, Spanish language arts, science, social studies, and bilingual math.
In K-5, science is taught in Spanish and social studies in English.
Middle School: 6th – 8th Grade
The continuation model in grades 6-8 includes English instruction in all core content areas (language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies).
In 6th grade, students choose the immersion or non-immersion pathway for Spanish instruction. The immersion pathway integrates language arts and social studies, known as Humanities, and the non-immersion pathway teaches Spanish as a World Language.
At the end of their 8th-grade year, students take the Assessment of Performance Toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL), which will allow students to apply for continued language courses in the 9th grade with the ultimate goal of applying for the Certificate of Multi- literacy at the end of high school graduation.
Rising 8th graders who are accelerated learners can apply for the Scholars Program. Our scholars can earn up to two high school credits in their 8th-grade year and continue an accelerated learning path through 12th grade at ASPIRA High School. The Scholars Program teaches students to challenge themselves, study subjects in greater detail, and prepare themselves for the rigorous demands of college. This program opens the door for students to be able to accelerate their learning, allowing them to take Advanced Placement (AP) and college-level courses prior to graduating from high school.
High School: 9th-12th Grade
Applications for students in 10th -12th grades must upload the latest report card (transcript), attendance and discipline letters
Each Pathway has at least three required courses taken in sequence. Students are encouraged to work with their parents/guardians and counselors to select the best path to graduation, preparing them for college and careers.
ASPIRA Charter High School offers seven career pathways for students:
Public and Community Health
K-12 Teacher Academy
Business and Information Management
Computer Science
Global Leadership
Visual and Performing Arts
Hospitality and Tourism Management
ASPIRA Virtual Academy (AVA)
The AVA program is offered to students in 1st through 8th grade.
Students participate in all instruction virtually, participating in synchronous classes with teachers on Zoom, scheduled across the academic day and week.
Students with specific schedule restrictions and needs can inquire about the fully asynchronous program as well.
AVA students can participate in school programs, events, sports, clubs, performing arts and other school-sponsored extracurricular activities.

At LAAA, we aim to fulfill our mission by implementing a bilingual programmatic focus called dual language education with the immersion model. This was the first of its kind in Delaware, commencing in 2011 and seeking to educate and empower all language learners. Each student at LAAA is supported throughout their learning journey to gain a proficiency in Spanish as our partner language.
